I recently listened to an excellent lecture by Dr. John Piper at www.theresurgence.com. For those of you who don't know who John Piper is you should take the opportunity to check out www.desiringgod.org. He is a blessing to me and I know he will be to you also.
While the content of his recent lecture is no doubt very heavy and sometimes deep, he brings up some very important questions that I often do not think about. Namely, at what point does my false interpretation of Scripture cease to be the true Gospel of Jesus Christ? Speaking more practically for me, at what point does a song that is not Biblically accurate cease to be a good praise song? Maybe this song improperly defines the attributes of God and thus ceases to glorify God. Maybe this song simply has a different emphasis than the Bible does about a particular topic.
I realize that I often overanalyze things, but it is my responsibility to be particular because what's at stake is very real. The difference between the true Gospel of Jesus Christ and a false gospel is a serious matter and I definitely do not take it lightly. I will no doubt fail in my judgement at times, and I will no doubt be to harsh or to soft with my decisions at times, but hopefully, hopefully the Holy Spirit will guide me... will guide us in paths of righteousness.
What do you think?
